Top-rated draft prospect Stamkos named OHL player of the month @NHLdotcom

TORONTO - Sarnia Sting forward Steven Stamkos was named Ontario Hockey League player of the month Friday.

Stamkos, 18, led the OHL with 13 goals and nine assists in 13 games in February.

He had a goal and five assists in a game against Saginaw on Feb. 3 and four goals, one assist in a game against Owen Sound on Feb. 8.

The Unionville, Ont., native is the top-rated prospect for the 2008 NHL entry draft.

He has 52 goals and 42 assists in 56 games.

Kitchener Rangers netminder Steve Mason earned goaltender of the month honours after posting a 7-1-0-0 record with a 1.37 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.

Brampton's Bobby Sanguinetti was defenceman of the month after amassing 12 points (7-5) in 12 games, while Sudbury Wolves forward Eric O'Dell was the league's rookie of the month after collecting 18 points (8-10) in 13 games.
