Tommy Tartaglione makes 31 saves as Cougars shut out Giants 3-0 @NHL

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Tommy Tartaglione made 31 saves against his former team as the Prince George Cougars blanked the Vancouver Giants 3-0 in Western Hockey League action Monday.

It was the fourth shutout of Tartaglione's WHL career. The native of Hasrbor City, Calif., had three shutouts last season with the Regina Pats. Tartaglione started his WHL season with the Giants.

The Cougars got all the offence they needed in the first period, scoring all three goals on the power play. Dana Tyrell collected his seventh and eight goals of the season and Cougars captain Greg Gardner, who opened the scoring at 1:05, also found a way to beat Tyson Sexsmith in the Vancouver net.

The win vaulted the Cougars (7-9-0-0) one point ahead of the idle Kamloops Blazers into third place in the B.C. Division. The Giants (11-3-1-2) still lead the WHL with an 25 points in 17 games.

Vancouver outshot the Cougars 31-18.
