flames split use

Believe it or not, the Calgary Flames are embracing an Edmonton Oilers fan.

Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk made a special video for Ben Stelter, the 5-year-old Edmonton Oilers fan undergoing treatment for glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. Stelter has gained internet fame in recent weeks for
his Oilers-themed videos
, shared by his father, Mike.
As hockey fans know, the two teams are bitter rivals with the matchup known as the "Battle of Alberta," but some things are bigger than the on-ice games.
Tkachuk's video message for the young superfan was shared by the Flames on Thursday.

"Obviously it's way bigger than hockey and doesn't matter who you're rooting for," Tkachuk said. "We're cheering him on and he doesn't like us and that's just what the game brings. But we're all obviously thinking about him and his family. He's a true warrior, so we're following him every step when he's at the games and everything like that. We're definitely cheering him on and hoping for the best for him."
Tkachuk was holding up a sign that Calgary fans and mascot Harvey the Hound posed with during Game 1 of the series on Wednesday.

"I think stuff like that is very close to me dealing with stuff in Calgary with kids in similar situations," Tkachuk said.
Mike Stelter responded to the video on Thursday.

Nothing better than making friends during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
