SEATTLE (CP) - Tim Kraus scored an unassisted, breakaway goal at 19:01 of the first period to lift the Vancouver Giants to a 3-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals.
The win gives Vancouver a 3-1 lead in the second-round series with Game 5 scheduled for Friday in Vancouver. Jan Eberle gave the T-birds an early lead when he scored only 31 seconds into the game. Vancouver tied it with a power-play goal by Spencer Machacek and then took the lead in the final minute of the first period on Kraus' goal.
Vancouver successfully killed off eight power plays for Seattle, including three 5-on-3s that totalled nearly three minutes.
Jon Blum scored into an empty net for Vancouver to put the game away with 14 seconds left.
