QUEBEC - The Quebec Remparts did the expected Thursday - but it wasn't easy.
Olivier Hinse's second goal of the game 12:18 into overtime led the Remparts to a 6-5 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in Game 1 of their QMJHL first-round playoff series.
What appeared to be a mismatch - Quebec finished 33 points ahead of Acadie-Bathurst in the regular-season standings - turned out to be a battle from the start. The Titan took the lead just 1:35 in on a goal by David Gilbert, and erased a two-goal deficit later in the game to force overtime.
Hinse finished with two goals and two assists for the Remparts, who host Game 2 on Friday. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Danick Paquette had a goal and an assist apiece, while Dmitri Kugryshev and Marc-Olivier Vallerand added singles.
Gilbert scored a pair of goals for the Titan, while Eric Faille added a goal and an assist. Faille's goal early in the third completed the two-goal rally and forced extra time.
Jeremie Blain also scored for Acadie-Bathurst.
Louis Domingue stopped 35 shots to earn the win for the Remparts.
Guillaume Nadeau was pulled after allowing three first-period goals. Francois Lacerte replaced him, and the two combined to make 39 saves.
