Thrashers sign first-rounder Burmistrov @NHL
The Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday signed forward Alex Burmistrov, their first-round choice (No. 8) in the 2010 Entry Draft.

"Alex continuously improved throughout training camp and has earned the opportunity to compete at this level," General Manger Rick Dudley said in a statement. "He has worked hard, has a tremendous understanding of the game and fits in well. We look forward to his continued development and contributions to our success."

Burmistrov, 18, appeared in 62 games with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League last season, scoring 22 goals and adding 43 assists.  The 6-foot-1, 180-pound center also added 8 goals and 8 assists in 17 playoff games for the Colts. Burmistrov participated in the 2010 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game for Team Orr and won the fastest skater competition.

Prior to his time in Barrie, the native of Kazan, Russia, spent a season playing for Kazan Ak-Bars of the Kontinental Hockey League. Burmistrov also represented his country at the 2010 World Junior Championships, recording four points (3 goals and 1 assist) in six games.
