Thrashers-Maple Leafs Preview
GAME: Atlanta Thrashers (8-10-1) at Toronto Maple Leafs (11-7-2).
TIME: Saturday, 7 p.m. EST.
The Atlanta Thrashers and Toronto Maple Leafs have had little trouble scoring with the man advantage this season.
Two of the league's best teams on power play meet when the Thrashers meet Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.
Atlanta scored four power play goals, including two in the final two minutes of regulation, in a 6-5 overtime win Friday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Thrashers have scored a league-best 34 power-play goals, one more than the Maple Leafs who were idle Friday.
Ilya Kovalchuk had two goals and three assists for Atlanta, which took advantage of the worst penalty-killing unit in the league heading into the game.
The Thrashers have scored on the power play in 11 of 13 games, but have had trouble defending against the man advantage. They ranked 27th in the league with a 78.6 penalty-kill percentage heading into Friday's games.
Toronto owned the best power play percentage (25.3), and scored two goals with the man advantage in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins.
"Our power plays have worked because of our quickness," coach Pat Quinn said. "We work on moving quicker as well as moving the puck quicker."
The victory was Toronto's season-best third straight. They scored three times in the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie.
"The third period was our best period of the year," said Sundin, who scored a power play goal. "We kept it simple and played smarter without the puck."
Bryan McCabe, who had two assists, has seven points during the Maple Leafs' winning streak.
Defenseman Ken Klee left the game early in the first period with an eye injury. His status for this contest is to be determined.
