NEW YORK  -- The Atlanta Thrashers' Tobias Enstrom, who led all rookie defensemen in scoring with 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 12 games, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for November.

Enstrom edged Chicago Blackhawks linemates Jonathan Toews (5-5--10 in 13 games) and Patrick Kane (2-9--11 in 13 games), and Phoenix Coyotes center Peter Mueller (6-3--9 in 13 games) for the award.

Enstrom tallied points in eight of 12 games, highlighted by a career-high three assists in a 5-1 victory at Washington Nov. 21. The 23-year-old native of Nordingra, Sweden also played an average of 25 minutes per game, topped by his 27:18 of ice time in a 4-3 overtime victory against Tampa Bay Nov. 19.

A late-round steal in the 2003 Entry Draft, Enstrom was selected by the Thrashers in the eighth round and 239th overall after capturing the 2002-03 Swedish Elite League's Rookie of the Year award with MoDo. The 5-10, 175-lb. native of Nordingra, Sweden leads all NHL rookies in average ice time per game (23:26) and power-play ice time (6:08), ranks second in assists (13) and tied for third in points (16) and plus-minus (+8).

With teammate Ilya Kovalchuk named yesterday the NHL's 'First Star' for November, the Thrashers are the first club since the 1996-97 Ottawa Senators to have two players sweep the League's monthly honors. Senators goaltender Ron Tugnutt and defenseman Wade Redden were the top player and rookie, respectively, in April 1997.
