Thompson scores shootout winner as Greyhounds down Otters 4-3

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Brett Thompson scored the shootout winner for Sault Ste. Marie as the Greyhounds beat the Erie Otters 4-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday.

Erie's Andrew Yogan scored his second of the game 30 seconds into the third to tie the game 3-3.

The Otters (1-0-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Mitch Gaulton power-play goal at 14:02 of the first and Yogan's first of the night 2:01 into the second.

The Greyhounds got one back on Vern Cooper's power-play goal just under two minutes later and Carson Dubchak tied the game 2-2 at 16:51.

Sault St. Marie (2-0-0) grabbed a 3-2 lead before the second was out on Michael Quesnele's goal with the man advantage at 18:08.

With the score tied 1-1 in the shootout, Thompson beat Otters goalie Ramis Sadikov in the fourth round. Needing to score, David Broll was stopped by Bryce O'Hagan as the Greyhounds sealed the win.

Erie finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while Sault Ste. Marie ended up 2-for-10.

O'Hagan stopped 31 shots to get the win, while Sadikov made 28 saves in the loss.
