Thomas Stajan's hat trick leads Brampton to 8-5 triumph over Windsor @NHLdotcom

Thomas Stajan scored a hat trick to give Brampton the lead on three separate occasions, and it almost wasn't enough.

The centre, who also added an assist, led the Battalion to an 8-5 victory over the pesky Windsor Spitfires in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon, in what turned out to be a see-saw battle between the clubs.

Brampton kept taking the lead only to have Windsor tie things up on four separate occasions. With the game tied at four 2:30 into the third period, Stajan was hauled down on a shorthanded breakaway attempt and was awarded a penalty shot. He made the most of his opportunity, going top shelf on goaltender Andrew Engelage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Guelph 7 Sudbury 3; Kingston 6 Ottawa 4, Kitchener 3 London 0; Niagara 5 Saginaw 3; Oshawa 3 Sault Ste. Marie 2; and Sarnia 5 Mississauga 0.

At Brampton, Ont., Cody Hodgson had a pair of goals while Luke Lynes, Graham McNabb and Matt Duchene rounded out the scoring for the Battalion (9-4-0-2).

Taylor Hall, Greg Nemisz, Adam Henrique, Mickey Renaud and Joshua Bailey found the net for the Spitfires (11-3-0-2).

Andrew Engelage made 30 saves for Windsor, while Patrick Killeen turned away 29 shots for Brampton.

Guelph 7 Sudbury 3

At Guelph, Ont., Luke Pither scored twice to lead the Storm (5-7-2-0) to victory over the Wolves (4-11-0-0).


Kingston 6 Ottawa 4

At Kingston, Ont., Jesse Brown scored the eventual game winner as the Frontenacs (4-10-0-1) edged the 67s (6-7-0-2).


Kitchener 3 London 0

At Kitchener, Ont., Josh Unice made 21 saves to earn the shutout as the Rangers (12-2-0-0) blanked the Knights (7-8-0-0).


Niagara 5 Saginaw 3

At Saginaw, Mich., Luca Caputi scored two goals and Aaron Snow added three assists to help power the Ice Dogs (10-6-0-0) past the Spirit (6-6-2-1).


Oshawa 3 Sault Ste. Marie 2

At Oshawa, Ont., Dean Howard's third period marker stood as the winner for the Generals (9-4-0-1) as they disposed of the Greyhounds (12-3-0-1).


Sarnia 5 Mississauga 0

At Sarnia, Ont., Steven Stamkos scored two goals and added an assist as the Sting (9-7-0-0) defeated the Majors (6-7-1-0).
