Canadiens center Jean Beliveau
scored 31:28 into overtime giving Montreal a 2-1 win and eliminating the Bruins from this second-round series. The Habs would go on to sweep the Blues for their fourth Cup in five seasons. This Cup was one of the five the Habs would win in the 10 seasons that Beliveau was the captain of the team before he retired in 1971.
The Rangers complete a six-game elimination of the Blues in the second-round with a 7-4 win. This was the second time in three seasons the Rangers advanced to the third round of the playoffs, but were defeated by a powerful Islander team. This season marked Rangers center Walt Tkaczuk
's last in a 14-season career in which he exclusively played for the Rangers.
Oilers center Wayne Gretzky
scored the game-winning goal in a 8-4 Oilers win as Edmonton gained an early 1-0 lead in the Campbell Conference Final with the Blackhawks. Edmonton would lose just one game in the first three rounds of the playoffs that season, but were ousted by the Islanders in four-straight games in the Stanley Cup Final.
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Phil Housley scored the game-winning goal by beating Vancouver goalie Kirk McLean
in Game 4 of Winnipeg and Vancouver's first-round series. The win seemingly gave the Jets a stranglehold on the series with 3-1 lead, but Vancouver managed to rebound and won the series in seven games.
Islanders center Ray Ferraro
scored his second game-winning goal in overtime in three nights at 5:40 into the second overtime in Game 4 giving the Islanders a 4-3 win and a 3-1 lead in their first-round series with the Capitals. This game also marked the third-straight overtime game in the series, which were all won by the Islanders. The Islanders, who had missed the playoffs the previous two seasons, advanced to the conference final for the first time since 1985 where they were defeated by the Canadiens in five games.
Blackhawks center Jeremy Roenick
scored at 1:23 of overtime in Game 4 of Chicago's first-round playoff series with Toronto evening the series at two games apiece. Roenick's goal, however, was the last one the Blackhawks would score that season as the Maple Leafs and Toronto goalie Felix Potvin
recorded back-to-back 1-0 shutouts in the next two games. The Maple Leafs would proceed to the semifinals only to be defeated there for the second-straight season.
Penguins center Petr Nedved
scored with just 45 seconds left in the fourth overtime period in Game 4 of Pittsburgh's first-round series with the Capitals tying the series at two. After losing the first two games of the series, the Penguins would win the next four eliminating the Capitals. Pittsburgh took their hot streak into the next round as well and defeated the Rangers in five games, but was halted by an underdog Panthers team that beat them in a seven-game series.
