Telegin's two goals lifts Colts to 3-1 win over Majors; Barrie leads series 1-0

BARRIE, Ont. - Ivan Telegin had a pair of goals as the Barrie Colts edged the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors 3-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night.

The win gives the Colts a 1-0 series lead on the Majors in the Eastern Conference quarter-final.

Erik Bradford had an empty-netter for Barrie, which played in its first playoff game since May 2010.

Telegin, a Winnipeg Jets prospect, had 35 goals in 46 regular-season games before scoring a pair for Barrie on Thursday.

Kristoff Kontos replied for Mississauga, which comes into this year's post-season as the defending Eastern Conference champions.

The Colts posted the second-best power play in the regular season, and struck early in the playoffs.

Barrie went 1-for-3 on the man advantage, while Mississauga ended the evening at 0-for-5.

Mathias Niederberger earned his first career OHL playoff victory, turning aside 26 shots.

Majors goaltender Brandon Maxwell made 33 stops in defeat.

Game 2 of the series is in Mississauga on Friday night.
