Taylor Hall's three points push Spitfires past Whalers for a 3-2 series lead @NHLdotcom

WINDSOR, Ont. - Taylor Hall had a goal and two assists and Andrew Engelage made 21 saves as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Plymouth Whalers 5-2 on Thursday to take a 3-2 series lead in their OHL Western Conference semifinal.

RJ Mahalak opened the scoring midway through the first period for the Whalers with his first goal of the playoffs, riffling a shot from the high slot past Engelage.

The Whalers maintained the 1-0 lead despite being outshot 18-6 in the opening stanza.

Windsor outshot Plymouth 29-4 in the second as goals from Hall, Rob Kwiet and Scott Timmins putt the Spitfires up 3-1 heading into the final period.

Greg Nemisz and Justin Shugg also scored for Windsor while Matt Caria had Plymouth's other goal.

Whalers netminderr Matt Hackett made 55 saves in taking the loss.
