Tavares scores 200th as London edges Kitchener 3-2 in overtime @NHLdotcom

KITCHENER, Ont. - John Tavares picked the perfect time to score his 200th Ontario Hockey League goal.

Tavares reached the milestone on a power play three minutes and eight seconds into overtime as the London Knights edged the Kitchener Rangers 3-2 on Sunday night.

Tavares opened the scoring on an early first-period power play. His overtime winner gave him 43 goals and 81 points this season as the Oakville, Ont., native extended his lead over Taylor Hall of the Windsor Spitfires to three points in the OHL scoring race.

Defenceman John Carlson continued his stellar rookie campaign with three assists. A first-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2008, Carlson was named OHL defenceman of the month in January, tallying four goals and 16 assists in 14 games while recording a plus/minus of plus-10. He sits second in rookie scoring with 59 points (13 goals, 46 assists).

Michael Del Zotto also assisted on all three London goals as the Knights (39-14-1-2) went 3-for-10 with the man-advantage. Justin Taylor scored the other goal.

Jeff Skinner had a goal and an assist and Tyler Randell also scored for the Rangers (26-28-3-2).

Trevor Cann made 28 saves to earn the win for the Knights, while Kitchener netminder Parker Van Buskirk stopped 22 shots.
