Tavares, Giordano lift Canada @NHL
Canada posted its second win in two games at the IIHF World Championships, defeating Latvia 6-1 at Sap Arena in Mannheim, Germany Monday.

Canada is currently tied with Switzerland atop Group B with six points. Last Saturday, Canada defeated Italy, 5-1.

John Tavares and Marc Giordano scored 2 goals each, Steven Stamkos and Steve Downie added goals, and Corey Perry recorded 3 assists. Starting goaltender Chris Mason made 12 saves through two periods. He was replaced by backup Chad Johnston at the start of the third.

After Canada scored six unanswered goals through two periods, Georgijs Pujacs scored Latvia's only goal mid-way through the third.

Four Canadian goals came on the power play and they outshot Latvia, 32-24.

Canada's next game is on Wednesday against Switzerland.
