They do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so Brandon Tanev certainly has reason to feel the supernatural love.

While the Seattle Kraken forward gave us the gift of an updated version of his legendary wide-eyed headshot, which he explained by saying he saw ghosts, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Kasperi Kapanen tried his hand at a similar soul-stirring portrait. Kapanen posted the side-by-side on his Instagram with the simple yet truthful caption of, "Nailed it."
Naturally, Kapanen's nickname is Casper, as in the friendly ghost.

Tanev's original headshot was taken last season when he was with the Penguins and it was a viral sensation.
"I did actually see a ghost," Tanev

. "It was walking behind the gentleman who was taking our pictures. So it kind of caught me off guard. I haven't seen one of those things yet so it was pretty rare to see. That's why obviously I had that facial expression."
But just because he's on a new team doesn't mean he can escape. Those eyes follow you wherever you go. Tanev looks a little less shocked at seeing ghosts this time around and perhaps even excited to see them now.
And just because, here's a year-by-year progression of Tanev's NHL headshots, starting with the 2015-16 season with the Winnipeg Jets up to now with the Kraken. A truly eye-opening journey.
