Goalie Thomas Greiss will start his second consecutive game after making a season-high 33 saves in the Islanders' 5-1 win against the Maple Leafs at Barclays Center on Sunday. Goalie Jaroslav Halak, whose agent tweeted his displeasure with the Islanders' three-goalie rotation before the game, will be the backup. Halak and coach Jack Capuano spoke at length before practice Monday. "I had a good talk with him," Capuano said. "Just want to get a feel again after it came out in the media a little bit, again, to revisit that to see how he was doing and he's fine." Rookie forward Anthony Beauvillier will play his ninth game, after which the Islanders must decide whether to return him to junior hockey or continue to play him and burn the first season of his three-year, entry-level contract. Beauvillier has one goal, five points and a plus-5 rating, and is playing on the top line with center John Tavares and right wing Josh Bailey. "The biggest thing for me is teams that compete always have a chance to win a hockey game," Capuano said. "He's competing for us." Forward Andrew Ladd, signed to a seven-year contract reportedly worth $38.5 million on July 1, has yet to score in nine games. "He had a couple of really good chances in the last game," Capuano said. "Just have a singular focus. Don't worry about what's going on or what somebody is saying. Just play the game. I think if he just stays with it good things will happen." Forward Casey Cizikas will play in his 300th NHL game.
