Tampa Bay Lightning sign free agent defenceman Geoff Kinrade to tryout contract @NHLdotcom

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning signed free agent defenceman Geoff Kinrade to an amateur tryout contract on Thursday.

The injury-depleted Lightning also recalled defenceman Kevin Quick from Norfolk of the AHL.

Kinrade became the 22nd different defencemen this season to play for the Lightning in Thursday night's game against Washington.

The total is four more than the previous record for defencemen used in one NHL season set by the Edmonton during the 1997-98 season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Tampa Bay has used 50 players overall, which is five short of the NHL one-season mark of 55 held by the 1991-92 Boston Bruins.

Kinrade appeared in eight games with Norfolk this year, picking up one goal and four points. He was signed by Norfolk after playing college hockey at Michigan Tech.

Quick played in four games with the Lightning earlier this season.

The list of injured Lightning defencemen include Andrej Mezzaros (shoulder surgery), Paul Ranger (shoulder surgery), Cory Murphy (foot), Richard Petiot (shoulder), Josef Melichar (leg) and Matt Lashoff (lower body).
