Stamkos earns 1,000th NHL point in Lightning's win

PHILADELPHIA -- Steven Stamkos got his 1,000th NHL point for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 4-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday.

Stamkos
reached the milestone
at 7:55 of the second period with an assist on the second of Nicholas Paul's two goals. He rimmed the puck behind the Flyers net to Ian Cole, whose centering pass from the left corner went off Paul in the crease and past Carter Hart.
"Just amazing to share it with these guys," Stamkos said. "It's an individual statistic, but there's so many people that have helped me get here, from the players I played with in the past. Obviously, [Martin St. Louis] and [Vincent Lecavalier] and there's so many guys that I started with and you just reminisce, like Teddy Purcell, Ryan Malone, Mike Smith, the list goes on. And then you've got [Nikita Kucherov] and [Victor Hedman] and [Brayden Point] and all these amazing players that I played with. Obviously, the guys I'm playing with now, [Alex Killorn], Paul. Everyone just has a hand, coaching staff.
"It just brings back so many amazing memories, like your parents getting you involved in the game, all that kind stuff, just kind of flashes back. It's one of those things that I don't think hits you till a little later. But just to share that with the guys on the ice, that's something you never dream of as a kid. So, for it to become a reality is pretty awesome."

TBL@PHI: Stamkos collects his 1,000th career point

Stamkos, the Lightning captain, is the 95th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points (494 goals, 506 assists), and the ninth active. He also extended his point streak to nine games (six goals, nine assists).
"I got the puck low in the corner, 'Killer' made a good play," Stamkos said. "I took a peek over my shoulder, I saw Cole coming down the backside and for a second I was just going to throw it back post, but then I didn't want to get yelled at in the meeting for turning the puck over. So, I thought I'd make the safe play behind the net, and obviously he made a great play out to Paul in front."
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 21 saves and had an assist, Cole had a goal and an assist, and Corey Perry had two assists for Tampa Bay (14-8-1).
Travis Konecny scored, and Hart made 23 saves for Philadelphia (8-11-5), which ended a 10-game slide (0-7-3) with a 3-1 win against the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
"There's not many positives from tonight, to be honest with you," Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo said. "Wasn't a good game all around. They outplayed us from start to finish."
Paul scored a power-play goal to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 16:02 of the first period on a one-timer from Perry.
Tampa Bay has scored with the man-advantage in nine straight games, an NHL high this season. It went 8-for-8 on power-play face-offs and scored once in three opportunities.
"The big thing for me is we're winning face-offs," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "When you win face-offs and you start with possession, the mojo starts kicking in."

After Paul scored his second goal, Ross Colton made it 3-0 with four seconds remaining in the second. Flyers defenseman Egor Zamula's pass in the neutral zone went off Colton to Perry, who skated in on Hart. Perry was tripped while trying to get a shot off, but Colton scored on the rebound.
"I'm glad we scored that third one late because it would have been ... not that I was thinking we need another one, but to get that third one was a little bit of burst [the Flyers'] bubble," Cooper said.
Tampa Bay outshot Philadelphia 17-2 in the second, including one segment when the Lightning maintained possession for nearly four straight minutes early in the period.
"We never could change the momentum back after that one shift where they hemmed us in," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "We just didn't have the ability to change the momentum back our way."
Cole made it 4-0 at 9:19 of the third period when his shot from center ice bounced off the end boards and rolled between Hart's skates. Vasilevskiy was credited with his first assist of the season.
Konecny scored at 11:23 for the 4-1 final. It was his first game back after missing six because of an upper-body injury.
