TBL-DET 1.7 recap

DETROIT -- Yanni Gourde had two goals and an assist, and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday.
"Goals are usually scored right in front of the net, so that's where I wanted to be tonight," said Gourde, whose two goals and three points each matched his NHL career high. "That's how my game works, and I was able to get some bounces tonight."

Louis Domingue made 34 saves in his debut for the Lightning (30-9-3), who won for the first time in three games. He had not played in the NHL since Oct. 28 for the Arizona Coyotes.
"That was huge for us," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "This was his first game for us, but he was calm back there, made some big saves, and played really well."
Defenseman Dan Girardi had a goal and an assist, Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov scored, and Ondrej Palat and Vladislav Namestnikov each had two assists for Tampa Bay.
"We knew we had to make a push because we haven't been playing very well in the last couple games," Johnson said.
Gustav Nyquist and Justin Abdelkader scored for the Red Wings (17-17-7), whose season-best four-game winning streak ended. Petr Mrazek allowed five goals on 24 shots.
"This one leaves a bitter taste in the mouth because it was a home game against a rival," forward Dylan Larkin said. "It's not the way we wanted to go into the break."

The Red Wings, who won't play again until Saturday because of their mandated five-day break, went 0-for-4 on the power play, including two 5-on-3 opportunities.
"We've got to find a way to get something in the net," Abdelkader said. "When you have that much time on the power play, including two 5-on-3s, you have to score a goal or two."
Girardi gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 8:56 of the first period when he tipped Namestikov's pass over Mrazek's shoulder.

Johnson made it 2-0 at 14:11 when he tapped in Girardi's deflection of Palat's pass.
Detroit had a 5-on-3 power play for 54 seconds late in the first, but Tampa Bay killed it to keep the two-goal lead entering the second period.
Nyquist made it 2-1 at 3:10 of the second, keeping the puck on a 2-on-1 break with Tyler Bertuzzi and beating Domingue.
Gourde knocked in a loose puck to make it 3-1 with one minute left in the second. Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill challenged for goaltender interference by Alex Killorn on Mrazek, but the goal was upheld after video review.

Abdelkader scored at 3:06 of the third period to make it 3-2, but Kucherov gave the Lightning a 4-2 lead at 13:42, and Gourde made it 5-2 at 16:05.
Kucherov's 27 goals are tied with Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin for the NHL lead.
Girardi left the game at 13:29 of the second period after he was hit in the back of his helmet by Martin Frk's slap shot.
"He's doing much better than that looked," Cooper said. "I've been coaching at all levels for a long time, and that was one of the scariest things I've ever seen, but hopefully everything is going to be OK. He's just going to have a couple tests."
The Red Wings shared Cooper's concern for Girardi.
"When you see something like that, you aren't even thinking about what team he's on," Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg said. "You're just hoping he's going to be OK."
