Jamie Benn's OT goal gets Stars past Lightning

DALLAS -- Jamie Benn scored with 1:13 remaining in overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at American Airlines Center on Saturday.
Antoine Roussel had a hat trick and Kari Lehtonen made 34 saves for Dallas (23-27-10), which ended a three-game losing streak and won for the second time this month.
"He was in the right place, right time," Tyler Seguin said of Roussel. "Always works hard. Always goes to the net hard got rewarded for it tonight."

Victor Hedman had two goals and an assist and Tyler Johnson had one goal and one assist for Tampa Bay (25-24-8), which lost its first game after a five-day break. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 24 saves.
"At some point we have to get two instead of just one, but I can't say the guys didn't leave it all out there," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "You look at all of the teams coming out of the break and not winning, I thought we gave ourselves every chance to win the game."

Hedman gave Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead 3:07 into the game when he scored on a rebound.
Johnson made it 2-0 at 11:59 on a power play, but Roussel scored twice before the end of the first period to tie the game.
Roussel batted a pass out of midair from Dan Hamhuis and past Vasilevskiy at 12:50.
"Patrick Eaves showed us a couple goals like that, so I just tried to follow up," Roussel said. "And I heard he's getting a tryout with the (Texas) Rangers, so I'm trying too."
Roussel tied it six minutes later when he drove hard to the net, took a pass from Tyler Seguin and beat Vasilevskiy to make it 2-2.
Hedman gave Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead at 9:46 of the second period on a power play.
But Roussel tied the game and completed his hat trick at 4:40 of the third period when he put a wrist shot past Vasilevskiy.
"It was awesome," Benn said. "It's fun to watch. All that hard work pays off. He bought lunch today, so I think he's going to have to do that again."

Benn's overtime goal helped the Stars finally complete a comeback; Dallas was 0-20-2 when trailing after the second period.

Lehtonen stopped Brayden Point's wrist shot at 3:04 of overtime. On the ensuing shift, Benn scored the game-winning goal.

Highlight of the game

After the game, the Stars saluted broadcaster Dave Strader, who was calling his first game of the season. Strader has been battling bile duct cancer, and during the first period there was a standing ovation from the fans. "It was awesome. Dave was around here this morning at morning skate, just brings a smile to all of our faces just to see him and what he's gone through. He's battled hard, he's a strong man, him and his wife. We're still supporting them. It was nice to get him back where he belongs there," Benn said.

Cody Eakin assisted on the game-winning goal and won 12 of 18 faceoffs.

Need to know

Johnson returned to the Lightning lineup after missing two games because of a lower-body injury. … Stars forward Adam Cracknell left the game in the third period because of a right leg injury. Cracknell had to be helped off the ice after he and Johnson collided along the boards near the Stars bench. After the game, Stars coach Lindy Ruff said Cracknell could miss 3-6 weeks.
