Szaszkiewicz scores improbable goal as Oil Kings win WHL debut, 3-2 over Ice @NHLdotcom

EDMONTON - Local player J.P. Szaszkiewicz scored an improbable goal with less than one second left as the expansion Edmonton Oil Kings skated to a 4-3 win over the Kootenay Ice in its inaugural Western Hockey League regular-season game.

Brandon Lockerby and Craig McCallum also scored for Edmonton.

Arnaud Jacquemet, Kevin King and Chad Greenan replied for Kootenay.

Alex Archibald made 25 saves to earn the win, while Kris Lazuruk had 18 saves for Kootenay.
