PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Ben Thomas scored the lone goal for the Syracuse Crunch in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Providence Bruins tonight at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

It took Syracuse just 1:26 to open scoring in Game 2 before the Bruins evened the score in the second period. The teams remained knotted through regulation until Providence ended their postseason overtime drought and tied up the Eastern Conference Finals series, 1-1, in the extra frame.
Mike McKenna turned aside 34-of-36 shots between the pipes for the Crunch. Zane McIntyre recorded the win with 29 saves for the Bruins. Syracuse went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Providence converted on 1-of-2 man-advantages.
Less than two minutes into the game, Tye McGinn skated up the slot and tapped the puck over to Mathieu Brodeur at the left point. He sent a feed down to Thomas who had plenty of time to control the pass and score backdoor.
With 3:20 remaining in the middle frame, the Bruins tallied the equalizer to eventually force overtime. Danton Heinen carried the puck down to the goal line before turning to send a centering feed for Jordan Szwarz to redirect in with a quick stick from the crease. Tommy Cross picked up the secondary helper.
At the 8:28 mark of the extra frame, Szwarz potted his second of the game from between the circles with the help of Wayne Simpson and Heinen to defeat Syracuse.
The Crunch and Bruins take the series to Syracuse for Game 3 this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
