Sylvester, Pacovsky score in shootout as Kootenay downs Moose Jaw 4-3 @NHLdotcom

Dustin Sylvester and Dominik Pacovsky scored in a shootout as the Kootenay Ice downed the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-3 in Western Hockey League action Friday night.

Michael Stickland scored twice in regulation as the Ice (3-5-0-3) struck for three goals in a 5:25 span of the third period to briefly take a 3-2 lead. Jason Bast's second goal of the game for the Warriors (4-4-0-1) forced extra time.

Kootenay netminder Thomas Heemskerk stopped both Moose Jaw shooters to preserve the win, the first shootout victory for the Ice this season.

The Warriors (4-4-0-1) grabbed a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Bast and Quinton Howden.

Todd Mathews stopped 40 shots in a losing effort for the Warriors.

Heemskerk made 25 saves to earn the win.
