Sweden beats France 6-3 at IIHF World Hockey Championship

BERN, Switzerland - Sweden defeated France 6-3 on Monday to secure second place in Group E at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

The Swedes, who finished behind Russia in their group with a 3-1-0-1 record, will face the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals.

Fristian Huselius, Marcus Nilson, Dick Tarnstrom, Carl Gunnarsson, Johnny Oduya and Kenny Jonsson all scored for Sweden. Goalie Stefan Liv had 16 saves for the win.

Anthoine Lussier, Pierre Edouard Bellemare and Sacha Treille replied for France.

France finished in last place in the group and will drop to the relegation round.

Ranked 18th in the world coming into the championships, France achieved its main goal of reaching the second round after beating Germany 2-1 last week.
