EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - Darryl Sutter took over as Los Angeles Kings coach, running practice Wednesday morning before holding a news conference at a nearby hotel.

He says he feels comfortable with his knowledge of the team after watching the previous five games on television and going through video of prior games.

The Kings fired Terry Murray on Dec. 12 and replaced on an interim basis with John Stevens, who went 2-2.

Sutter, who hasn't coached in the NHL since 2006 with Calgary, debuts Thursday night at Staples Center against Anaheim. He has also had coaching stints with Chicago and San Jose.
