Super 16: Lightning return to top spot

The Tampa Bay Lightning are back at the top of NHL.com's weekly Super 16 power rankings.
The Lightning fell from No. 1 on Feb. 8 after a 16-week run. The Boston Bruins were No. 1 the past three weeks but dropped to No. 4 this week when the Nashville Predators and Vegas Golden Knights jumped ahead of them.

The Minnesota Wild made the biggest leap, going from No. 12 last week to No. 8. The Calgary Flames got back into the Super 16 at No. 16 after falling out last week.

To create the power rankings, each of the participating staff members puts together his or her version of what they think the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14 and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.

1. Tampa Bay Lightning (43-17-4)

Total points: 214
Last week: No. 2
Hit:Steven Stamkos has established an NHL career high for assists in a season. The forward has 47; his previous high was 46 in 2010-11.
Miss:Nikita Kucherov, who leads the NHL with 82 points (33 goals, 49 assists), missed his first game of the season Wednesday, a 2-1 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres. The right wing sustained an upper-body injury during a 4-3 shootout win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

2. Nashville Predators (39-14-9)

Total points: 210
Last week: No. 3
Hit:Defenseman Roman Josi has 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) during a five-game point streak, including at least two points in four of the five games. Nashville's captain had five assists in a 6-5 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, tying the Predators record for most points in a game.
Miss:Nothing here. The Predators have won five games in a row.

3. Vegas Golden Knights (41-17-5)

Total points: 182
Last week: No. 4
Hit:William Karlsson has four goals in the past four games and the forward is third in the NHL with 34 goals in 63 games. He had 18 goals in 183 games from 2014-17 with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks.
Miss:The Golden Knights are 60.9 percent on the penalty kill (14-for-23) in their past 10 games. They have allowed at least one power-play goal in four consecutive games.

4. Boston Bruins (38-15-8)

Total points: 179
Last week: No. 1
Hit:Rick Nash has one goal, 10 shots on goal and 17 shot attempts in two games with the Bruins since they acquired the forward in a trade with the New York Rangers on Sunday. The right wing's goal was his 800th NHL point.
Miss:Patrice Bergeron is out with a fractured right foot. The Bruins' top center is expected to be evaluated again in 12 days.

5. Winnipeg Jets (37-17-9)

Total points: 177
Last week: No. 6
Hit:The Jets have scored at least one power-play goal in six consecutive games. They are 8-for-21 (38.1 percent) in those games.
Miss:A 6-5 loss to Nashville on Tuesday was the first time this season Winnipeg lost in regulation when leading after the second period. The Jets are 29-1-1 when ahead after two periods.

6. Pittsburgh Penguins (36-24-4)

Total points: 144
Last week: No. 5
Hit:Evgeni Malkin leads the NHL in goals (22) and points (40) since Jan. 1. The center has 76 points (36 goals, 40 assists) in 60 games this season.
Miss:Goaltender Matt Murray is out indefinitely because of a concussion. He was injured during practice Monday.

7. Toronto Maple Leafs (39-20-7)

Total points: 143
Last week: No. 7
Hit:The Maple Leafs are 13-2-2 since Jan. 24.
Miss:Auston Matthews has missed the past three games because of a shoulder injury and the center is not expected to play in the 2018 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game against the Washington Capitals at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday (8 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, TVAS, NHL.TV).

8. Minnesota Wild (36-20-7)

Total points: 113
Last week: No. 12
Hit:In three games since coach Bruce Boudreau put forwards Eric Staal, Jason Zucker and Mikael Granlund together on a line, they have combined for 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists). Staal has 10 points (six goals, four assists), Granlund has eight points (four goals, four assists), and Zucker has eight points (one goal, seven assists).
Miss:Nothing here. The Wild have won five in a row and got defenseman Jonas Brodin back in the lineup Tuesday after he missed nine games following surgery on his left hand.

9. Philadelphia Flyers (34-19-10)

Total points: 111
Last week: No. 11
Hit:Petr Mrazek is 3-0-0 with a .947 save percentage, 1.30 goals-against average and one shutout in three starts since the Flyers acquired the goalie in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 19.
Miss:Nothing here. The Flyers have won six games in a row and they're 10-0-2 since Feb. 3.

10. Washington Capitals (36-21-7)

Total points: 110
Last week: No. 8
Hit:Alex Ovechkin needs one goal to reach 40 in a season for the ninth time in his 13 NHL seasons. The forward needs three goals to reach 600 in the NHL. He could reach both milestones in the Stadium Series game against Toronto on Saturday.
Miss:Braden Holtby is 0-4-2 with a 5.20 GAA and .851 save percentage in six starts since Feb. 11. The Capitals' No. 1 goalie has allowed 26 goals on 174 shots during that span.

11. San Jose Sharks (34-21-9)

Total points: 93
Last week: No. 9
Hit:Eric Fehr has won 65.8 percent of his faceoffs (25-for-38) in four games since the Sharks acquired the center in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs for a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft on Feb. 20.
Miss:The Sharks are 0-for-23 on the power play in 10 games since Feb. 10.

12. Dallas Stars (36-23-4)

Total points: 74
Last week: No. 12
Hit:Tyler Seguin has scored in three consecutive games and has 10 goals in 14 games since Jan. 25. The center has 165 goals in 368 games with the Stars since the 2013-14 season. He needs eight goals to tie Mike Modano for the most goals of any player in his first five seasons with the franchise. Modano scored 173 goals in 393 games from 1989-94.
Miss:Jamie Benn has no goals on 24 shots on goal in the past 10 games and one goal on 30 shots in 14 games since Jan. 25. The forward averaged 2.98 shots on goal per game and scored on 13.7 percent of them (20 goals on 146 shots) in the first 49 games. Since then, he's averaging 2.14 shots per game and has scored on 3.3 percent of them (one goal on 30 shots).

13. New Jersey Devils (33-22-8)

Total points: 50
Last week: No. 16
Hit:Cory Schneider, who has missed the past 16 games because of groin and hip injuries, made 19 saves on 20 shots in a rehab start for Binghamton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday. He joined the Devils in Florida on Wednesday.
Miss:Marcus Johansson has missed the past 16 games because a concussion. There is no timetable for the forward's return.

14. Anaheim Ducks (31-21-12)

Total points: 41
Last week: No. 15
Hit:The Ducks are 15-for-15 on the penalty kill in their past five games and 25-for-26 in nine games since Feb. 9.
Miss:Ryan Kesler has no points in his past seven games the center has one goal in 11 games since Feb. 3.

15. Los Angeles Kings (35-24-5)

Total points: 38
Last week: No. 14
Hit:Jeff Carter has scored in each of the past two games, home-and-home wins against the Golden Knights. The forward has 18 shots on goal in three games since returning to the lineup after a 55-game absence because of a lacerated ankle tendon. He has 14 shots on goal in the past two games.
Miss:The Kings swept a back-to-back from the Golden Knights allowing 81 shots on goal, the most they've allowed in back-to-back games since Oct. 22-23, 2015, when they allowed 40 each in wins against the Sharks and Carolina Hurricanes.

16. Calgary Flames (32-24-9)

Total points: 11
Last week: NR
Hit:Matthew Tkachuk has scored 14 goals in 23 games since Jan. 11. Malkin (19) is only player in the NHL with more than the forward during that span.
