Sundin preparing for home debut with Canucks @NHLdotcom

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -Mats Sundin got right back to work in practice Thursday a day after his first NHL game in nine months, while Vancouver Canucks star goalie Roberto Luongo returned to workouts with his teammates.

"I felt good in the battles," Sundin said after playing about 15 minutes Wednesday night in a 4-2 victory in Edmonton. "I felt strong. The biggest thing is timing when you're in situations around the net passing and shooting and making plays."

He'll make his home debut Friday night against St. Louis.

Luongo, sidelined 22 games by a groin injury, hopes to return before the Jan. 21-27 All-Star break. He was voted to the starting lineup for the Western Conference team in the All-Star game in Montreal.

"My main focus is getting back in the lineup and making sure that when I do, it's the right time," Luongo said. "If it happens to be before the All-Star game and I'm feeling good, I'd love to represent my team in my hometown."

He practiced for about 25 minutes Thursday.

"As far as timing, I don't know what it's going to feel like until I get into full practice and I'm sure it's going to be a bit of a battle at the beginning because being away for six weeks its not something easy to jump right in to," Luongo said.
