For a second straight season, the Western Hockey League Central Division belongs to the league-leading Calgary Hitmen.
Brett Sonne scored twice as the Hitmen beat the Kootenay Ice 4-2 Sunday to lock up the division title. Brandon Kozun and Paul Postma also scored for the Hitmen (47-7-3-1), while Kyle Bortis set up a pair of goals.
Postma scored his 20th goal of the season to extend his goal-scoring streak to five games. He is the first Hitmen defenceman to ever accomplish that feat and the first to reach the 20-goal mark as well.
Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Swift Current 2, Saskatoon 1; Seattle 4, Vancouver 3; Tri-City 5, Lethbridge 2; Everett 3, Chilliwack 1; and Kelowna 2, Spokane 1.
At Calgary, Kevin King and Drew Czerwonka scored for the Ice (26-22-2-6), who built up a 2-1 lead after the first period before the Hitmen responded with three straight goals.
Calgary goalie Martin Jones made 18 saves to record his league-leading 35th win of the season. Hitmen netminder Todd Mathews stopped 31 shots at the other end.
Broncos 2, Blades 1
At Saskatoon, Sask., Taylor Vause scored the game winner as Swift Current rallied to beat the Blades.
Matt Tassone also scored for the Broncos (31-24-1-1).
Walker Wintoneak scored the lone goal for the Blades (40-13-3-1).
Thunderbirds 4, Giants 3
At Kent, Wash., Thomas Hickey had two goals and an assist to help Seattle end Vancouver's 10-game winning streak.
Chris Cloud and Greg Scott also scored for Seattle (25-27-1-3), while Calvin Pickard made 32 saves.
The Giants (46-5-0-3) had first-period goals from Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Mike Piluso and Nick Ross.
Americans 5, Hurricanes 2
At Kennewick, Wash., Johnny Lazo scored a goal and two assists as the Americans rolled over Lethbridge.
Jason Reese, Petr Stoklasa, Brett Plouffe and Tayor Procyshen also scored for the Americans (38-15-0-3).
Carter Ashton and Cam Braes scored for Lethbridge (28-25-3-2).
Silvertips 3, Bruins 1
At Chilliwack, B.C., Thomas Heemskerk stopped 30 shots as Everett beat the Bruins.
Kellan Tochkin, Shane Harper and Graham Potuer scored for Everett (23-24-7-2).
Brandon Manning replied for Chilliwack (14-36-2-4), while Mark Friesen made 22 saves.
Rockets 2, Chiefs 1
At Spokane, Wash., Colin Long scored two goals to lead Kelowna past the Chiefs.
Long scored a short-handed goal in the first period and broke a 1-1 tie in the third period with a power-play goal for the Rockets (33-19-1-2).
Jared Spurgeon scored for the Chiefs (34-16-0-3) and goalie Dustin Tokarski made 29 saves.
