Summers agrees to Coyotes' qualifying offer @NHLdotcom

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The Phoenix Coyotes have signed restricted free agent defenseman Chris Summers to a one-year contract.

Terms of the deal were not released.

Summers, a 24-year-old from Ann Arbor, Mich., played 21 games with the Coyotes last season, notching three assists. He spent the rest of the season with the Portland Pirates of the AHL, with two assists in 28 games.

Summers was a first-round pick by the Coyotes in the 2006 NHL draft and has two goals and 11 assists in 109 NHL games.
