Sudbury Wolves select John McFarland first at OHL bantam draft @NHLdotcom

The Sudbury Wolves selected John McFarland of Richmond Hill, Ont., first overall in the Ontario Hockey League draft Saturday morning.

The centre had 96 goals and 69 assists for 165 points to go along with 176 penalty minutes in 76 games played with the Greater Toronto Hockey League champion Toronto Jr. Canadiens during the 2007-08 season.

Teammates Gregg McKegg (Erie Otters) and Steven Shipley (Owen Sound Attack) of the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs went second and third, respectively, followed by Erik Gudbranson of the Ottawa Jr. 67's to the Kingston Frontenacs.

The Peterborough Petes selected Ryan Spooner from the Ottawa Jr. Senators fifth overall.
