Subban scores shootout winner as Belleville Bulls edge Windsor Spitfires 2-1

WINDSOR, Ont. - Jordan Subban scored the shootout winner and Malcom Subban made 33 saves as the Belleville Bulls edged the Windsor Spitfires 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday.

Kerby Rychel opened the scoring in the game for the Spitfires (8-7-4) with a power-play goal when he rifled a slapshot from the top of the face-off circle.

Michael Curtis tied the game for the Bulls (9-5-2) with 4:31 remaining in the third, when he one-timed a slapshot from the top of the face-off circle over the outstretched glove hand of Jaroslav Pavelka and under the cross bar.

Play continued for a few seconds before the goal was confirmed after video review, setting the stage for extra time.

Jordan Subban was the only shooter to score in the six rounds of the shootout.

Windsor has scored only once in 17 shootout attempts so far this season and the loss was the Spitfires' fourth in four shootouts this season.

Notes: Both teams were missing key personnel. The Spitfires were without defenceman John Bowen and right-winger Jordan Maletta due to fighting suspensions and left-winger Chris Marchese who was out with an upper-body injury. ... The Bulls continued to be without team captain and Vancouver Canucks prospect Brendan Gaunce, who missed the game with a separated shoulder.
