Steen helps Blues knock off Hurricanes @NHLdotcom

Alexander Steen assisted on the go-ahead goal by Joakim Lindstrom in his preseason debut to help the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes at Scottrade Center on Tuesday.

Brian Elliott stopped 19 shots for St. Louis, which won for the first time in five preseason games.

Steen, who sat out the Blues' first two games and was held out of the next two for precautionary reasons following a minor injury sustained during a scrimmage, originally was credited with an unassisted goal at 18:38 of the second period, snapping a 1-1 tie. The goal was changed to Lindstrom after the game.

Vladimir Tarasenko gave the Blues a two-goal lead when he scored with 2:15 remaining.

David Backes gave the Blues a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 33 seconds into the second period. Rookie defenseman Ryan Murphy's goal at 5:59 got the Hurricanes even.

Carolina's Cam Ward made 26 saves.
