Steele Boomer has goal, assist, leads Ice to 2-1 victory over Hitmen

CALGARY - Steele Boomer had a goal and an assist to lead the Kootenay Ice to a 2-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen in Western Hockey League action on Thursday night.

Matt Fraser scored the game-winning goal in the second period for the Ice (24-15-3), who have won eight straight games. Dustin Sylvester chipped in with a pair of assists.

Giffen Nyren scored the lone goal of the game for the Hitmen (27-12-2), who have lost two straight games and four of their last five.

Kootenay netminder Todd Mathews stopped 27 of 28 shots he faced to improve his record to 17-7-1-2.

Calgary goalie Martin Jones made his return to the Calgary lineup after helping Canada win a silver medal at the 2010 world junior hockey championship in Saskatoon and made 22 saves in a losing cause.
