DALLAS -- Dallas Stars forward Ray Whitney missed the morning skate due to illness and was scratched for the game against Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center.
Dustin Jeffrey, who was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 17, got the call on the Stars' fourth line alongside Shawn Horcoff and Vernon Fiddler. Jeffrey, a healthy scratch for the past eight games, last played Dec. 12 at the Nashville Predators.
Whitney, who has four goals and 15 points in 33 games, has played 16 straight games for Dallas since missing five games with a lower-body injury in November.
Dallas is 7-3-4 in December, and finishing the month and year on a high note is a priority.
"With a new calendar year, it's the end of something and the start of hopefully another good run of games," Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski said Tuesday morning. "So we want to go out on a positive note, enjoy the night and start out the new year feeling good."
Kari Lehtonen will start his sixth straight game in net for Dallas.
Los Angeles did not skate since it is on the tail end of a back-to-back after losing 1-0 at the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night. Ben Scrivens got the nod in goal after Martin Jones played in a 1-0 loss at Chicago.
