The Dallas Stars have signed forward Alex Guptill to a two-year, entry-level contract. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Guptill, 22, has spent the last three seasons at the University of Michigan, posting 44 goals and 94 points in 110 games. This past season, Guptill tied for third on the Wolverines with 25 points in 31 games. During his freshman season, he was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Year and was also named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team after posting 33 points in 41 games.
"Red Berenson and the rest of Michigan's coaching staff deserve a lot of credit for preparing Alex for the next level of hockey," general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. "He's developed into a consistent scorer with a quick, hard shot and will continue to develop those skills in the years ahead."
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Newmarket, Ontario native was selected by Dallas in the third round (No. 77) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
