Stars reassign Campbell, trim 14 from roster

The Dallas Stars on Sunday loaned goaltender Jack Campbell to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Texas Stars, as they reduced their training camp roster by 14 players.

Campbell, a first-round pick (No. 11) in the 2010 NHL Draft, made his NHL debut on Oct. 20, 2013 against the Anaheim Ducks, making 41 saves in a 6-3 loss. He was 12-2-2 with a 1.49 goals-against average and .942 save percentage in 16 appearances for Texas.

Also loaned to Texas were goalies Henri Kiviaho and Maxime Legace, defenseman Troy Vance and forwards Ludwig Karlsson, Taylor Peters, Gemel Smith, Matej Stransky and Branden Troock.

Forward Jason Dickinson was loaned to his junior club, the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League.

Released from their professional tryout contracts were defensemen Derek Meech and Maxime Fortunus and forward Nicolas Blanchard. Forward Derek Hulak was released from his amateur tryout contract.

The Stars have 34 players remaining on their training camp roster.


The Montreal Canadiens got their training camp roster down to 35 players by making a series of transactions Sunday.

Seventeen players were assigned to their AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs: Mac Bennett, Tim Bozon, Daniel Carr, Michael Condon, Connor Crisp, Morgan Ellis, Joe Finley, Stefan Fournier, T.J. Hensick, Charles Hudon, Patrick Holland, David Makowski, Jack Nevins, Magnus Nygren, Robert Shea, Nick Sorkin and Dalton Thrower.

Eight players were released from training camp: Justin Baker, Riley Brace, Joel Chouinard, Tanner Eberle, Sahir Gill, Stefano Momesso, Evan Wardley and Zach Yuen.

The Canadiens assigned Nikita Scherbak to his junior club, the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.


The Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday trimmed their training camp roster by six players, including returning 2013 draft pick Oliver Bjorkstrand to his junior club, the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.

The Blue Jackets assigned defensemen Austin Madaisky and Will Weber, and forward T.J. Tynan to the Springfield Falcons of the AHL.

Defenseman Brett Ponich and forward Mike Hoeffel were released from their professional tryout contracts. Ponich and Hoeffel are expected to report to Springfield.

The Blue Jackets have 36 players remaining on their training camp roster.


The San Jose Sharks on Sunday assigned four players to their AHL affiliate in Worcester: defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser and forwards Ryan Carpenter, Petter Emanuelsson and Rylan Schwartz.

The Sharks have 42 players remaining on their training camp roster.


The Florida Panthers on Sunday assigned the following players to their AHL affiliate in San Antonio: goaltenders Sam Brittain and Michael Houser, defenseman Joshua McFadden, Jonathan Racine and Shayne Taker, and forwards Connor Brickley, Steven Hodges, John McFarland, Brett Olson and F Logan Shaw.

The Panthers released forward Joe Basaraba from his professional tryout and defenseman Joshua Brown. They have been invited to San Antonio training camp.


The Boston Bruins sent 10 players to their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, and released forward Bracken Kearns from his professional tryout contract.

Chris Casto, Alex Fallstrom, Brian Ferlin, Seth Griffith, Jared Knight, Matt Lindblad, Joe Morrow, Ben Sexton, and Zach Trotman were assigned to Providence. Tyler Randell will also be sent to Providence if he clears waivers.
