Stars prospect Ritchie has 11-point weekend in OHL @NHLdotcom

Dallas Stars prospect Brett Ritchie scored five goals Sunday to cap an 11-point weekend playing for the Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League.

IceDogs linemate Ryan Strome, a New York Islanders prospect, had 10 points in the two games.

"It was a good weekend. We played well as [a] team and obviously I got the points with my line," Ritchie told the St. Catherines Standard.

Ritchie helped his team come back from 4-2 down against the Peterborough Petes on Sunday, scoring three times (including an empty-netter) in the final 7:13 of a 6-4 win. The wing had given the IceDogs a 2-1 lead with a first-period power-play goal and a score six minutes into the second.

Saturday, Ritchie had four goals and two assists in a 9-4 win over the Guelph Storm. He also had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 victory over the Kitchener Rangers on Thursday.

Ritchie had one goal in the first 12 games of the season.

"Everybody goes through slumps, and when you can???t score, you have to keep playing the right way," he said, according to the Standard.

"I was getting a lot of chances and obviously they were going to start going in. We got lucky on a few and then they went in in bunches, so we???re just going to try and keep it going."

Ritchie, chosen in the second round (No. 44) of the 2011 NHL Draft, has 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) in 19 games this season.

Strome, a center who was the No. 5 pick in the 2011 draft, had a goal and four assists in each game Saturday and Sunday. He leads the league with 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists).
