Dallas Stars forward Valeri Nichushkin will have hip surgery next week and is expected to miss four months, the team announced Saturday.
Nichushkin, a first-round pick (No. 10) by the Stars in the 2013 NHL Draft, has no points in four games this season. He played the first two games of the season for the Stars, was sidelined for nine games by hip and groin problems that had plagued him since training camp, then returned for two games last week. He hasn't played since Nov. 6 and was placed on injured reserve by the Stars earlier this week.
"We had it diagnosed, and decided surgery is the best thing," general manager Jim Nill said, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The 19-year-old had 14 goals, 34 points and a team-best plus-20 rating in 79 games for the Stars last season. He also had a goal and an assist in six Stanley Cup Playoff games.
