Saturday afternoons in the fall often mean college football -- but on this particular Saturday it meant the Stanley Cup as well.
GM Stan Bowman, a graduate of Notre Dame, brought the Cup to South Bend for the game between the Irish and 16th-ranked Stanford. Bowman met with members of the Notre Dame ice hockey team and the Cup was on the sidelines prior to and during the game, even making a brief appearance on the field at one point before the Notre Dame band came out. Stanford won, 37-14.
Earlier in the day, the Cup also appeared at Northwestern's home game against Central Michigan. Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz, a Northwestern alum, and president John McDonough accompanied the Cup at the game. Northwestern claimed a 30-25 victory.
