Stamkos scores twice to lead Spirit to 6-3 victory over Sting @NHLdotcom

SAGINAW, Mich. - Steven Stamkos scored two goals to help the Sarnia Sting beat the Saginaw Spirit 6-3 Wednesday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Jared Gomes had a goal and an assist and Justin DiBenedetto added three assists for the Sting, who moved into sixth place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of the Spirit.

Jamie Arniel, Stamkos and Vladimir Nikiforov scored in the first period and staked Sarnia to an early lead.

Jack Combs, Adam Comrie and Ryan McDonough scored in the second for Saginaw to tie the game.

Gomes scored the goal-ahead goal for Sarnia while the Sting were short handed in the second period.

The Sting (34-27-2-0) added two goals for insurance in the third period from Steve Ferry and Stamkos.

Saginaw (31-25-5-2) outshot Sarnia 41-28.

Andrew Perugini was busy for the Sting with 38 saves. Ryan Daniels stopped 22 shots for the Spirit.
