Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos had surgery Monday to treat a blood clot near his right collarbone.
The Lightning said the two-hour procedure was performed at Tampa General Hospital by Dr. Karl Illig, director of vascular surgery at the University of South Florida.

"Everything went as expected for Steven today," Illig told the Lightning website. "We plan to re-evaluate him in about two weeks and we should know more about his prognosis at that time."
The Lightning announced Stamkos was diagnosed with the blood clot, a type of vascular thoracic outlet syndrome called effort thrombosis, on Saturday. It is expected he'll be out 1-3 months.

"Obviously this situation is extremely disappointing because I wanted to help my team clinch a playoff spot and prepare for the start of the postseason," Stamkos said in a statement Saturday. "During my recovery I will do all I can to help my teammates, and I hope to rejoin them soon in the Stanley Cup Playoffs."
Stamkos leads the Lightning with 36 goals and is tied with Nikita Kucherov for the lead with 64 points.
The Lightning have clinched a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and can move into first place in the Atlantic Division with a win Monday against the New York Islanders (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, FS-F, MSG+, TVA Sports) and a loss by the Florida Panthers against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
