MINNEAPOLIS -- If the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series event at TCF Bank Stadium this past weekend proved anything, it was that the "State of Hockey" is just that and more.

It began the moment Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton made an official proclamation Feb. 2 to declare the weekend "NHL Stadium Series Weekend" and concluded with a 6-1 win by the Minnesota Wild against the rival Chicago Blackhawks before 50,426 on Sunday.

Minnesotans take great pride in this outdoor stuff, particularly since the state boasts almost 12,000 lakes, making pond hockey a way of life. The state produced 36 players on NHL rosters this season and ranks first in the nation in terms of participation, according to USA Hockey.

Fans were treated to games and activities at Spectator Plaza, and they had a chance to see in person the hockey legends who played for the Minnesota North Stars/Wild and Chicago Blackhawks during a red carpet entrance prior to the 2016 NHL Stadium Series Alumni Game on Saturday.

Here are 10 other unforgettable moments from the weekend in Minnesota:

Wild's Pominville surging under Torchetti

Forward has a goal in three of four games under new coach

Pominville lights the lamp

CHI@MIN: Pominville lasers the puck for a 4-0 lead

2/21/16: Jason Pominville hammers a slap shot past the glove of Corey Crawford to put the Wild up by four goals in the 2nd

  • 00:49 •

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Wild forward Jason Pominville continued his scoring surge Sunday with a goal and two assists in a 6-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at TCF Bank Stadium.

Eight days ago, Pominville had six goals through 55 games, and some were questioning how a player who scored 30 in 2013-14 could fall so far, so fast.

On pace for the fewest goals in a full season during his 12-year NHL career and the fewest points since his rookie season in 2005-06, when he played 57 games, Pominville was even demoted to the fourth line during the final days of Mike Yeo's tenure as coach.

Dumba has 'unbelievable' Stadium Series experience

Wild defenseman plays key role in win vs. Blackhawks

Dumba opens the scoring

CHI@MIN: Dumba nets juicy rebound for an early lead

2/21/16: Matt Dumba crashes the net and hammers the rebound home to give the Wild an early 1-0 lead in the 1st

  • 00:51 •

MINNEAPOLIS -- One look at Matt Dumba's eye black was all it took to gauge how revved up the Minnesota Wild defenseman was for the first outdoor NHL game in The State of Hockey.

It didn't take long for the Chicago Blackhawks to figure it out either.

Dumba, channeling the look of wrestling's Ultimate Warrior with his eye black ("I went a little crazy with it") scored the first goal of the game at 3:25 and then threw a big hit almost two minutes later that drew a penalty to set up another Wild goal at 7:10, sparking the home team to a 6-1 win in the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game at TCF Bank Stadium.

2/21/16: Thomas Vanek redirects Jason Pominville's shot into the back of the net for a power-play goal, giving the Wild a 2-0 lead in the 1st

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville craves consistency, but the defending Stanley Cup champions haven't provided much of it yet with 20 games left in the regular season.

The Blackhawks (38-19-5) still lead the Central Division after a 6-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild in the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game at TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday, but there are issues to address.

MINNEAPOLIS -- It was a moment the State of Hockey had waited for ever since Minnesota re-entered the League 15 seasons ago.

The first professional hockey game held outdoors in the state on Sunday was everything Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold had envisioned when he petitioned for the type of outdoor event that exemplifies what is near and dear to every Minnesotan.

In the end, the Wild capped it off with a 6-1 win against the rival Chicago Blackhawks in the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series Game before 50,426 at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Devan Dubnyk joins Jamie Hersch on NHL Tonight to discuss his teams 6-1 Stadium Series win over the Chicago Blackhawks

  • 01:58 •

Minnesota Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk, who made 31 saves in a 6-1 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium, has been keeping a diary of his experiences this weekend. In his final installment, he focuses on the atmosphere for the game and his bid at a shutout, which was ruined when Patrick Kane scored with 7:55 remaining.

What a day! That was incredible.

The one memory I will have is when we first walked out to start the game and the University of Minnesota band was playing and everybody started to get excited. I can certainly see why the football players get fired up coming out of the tunnel. The game was long, but it was long in a good way. Between the atmosphere and the way we were playing, you didn't really want it to end. It's certainly a day I won't forget any time soon.
