Staal to practice, could join Rangers on Europe trip

by Dan Rosen /
PRAGUE -- Rangers coach John Tortorella said Thursday that injured defenseman Marc Staal will practice with the AHL's Connecticut Whale in Hartford on Friday with the hope that he will rejoin his teammates in Europe in the next few days.

Staal has been sidelined with headaches that are a possible result of a concussion he suffered in game against Carolina in February as a result of a hit from his brother, Eric.

"It feels better today," Tortorella said. "I think we're hoping he's going to practice with Hartford on Friday. We'll see how he reacts and hopefully, if it's positive results, we'll get him out here."

The Rangers play in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Friday. They have an off-day in Gothenburg on Saturday and then travel to Bratislava on Sunday for a game that night. They move on to Zug, Switzerland, to play Monday night before heading to Stockholm, where they will open the regular season against Los Angeles in the 2011 Compuware NHL Premiere.
