Staal scores winner in 4-3 dog fight between the Wolves and the IceDogs

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Jared Staal scored the game-winner with under a minute remaining in the third period to lift the Sudbury Wolves over the Niagara IceDogs 4-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Friday night.

Staal also assisted on John Kurtz's first-period marker as Sudbury (16-15-1-2) carried a 2-1 lead into the second. Peter Hermenegildo extended the lead before Chris DeSousa and Andrew Agozzino scored for the IceDogs (12-17-4-4) to tie the game at 3-3.

Matt Dias also scored for the Wolves, while Kyle Steckley had the other goal for Niagara, which has lost six straight.

Andrew Loverock made 32 saves for Sudbury. IceDogs netminding duty was split between John Cullen, who stopped 12 of 14 shots in the first period, and Mark Visentin, who allowed two goals on 26 shots.
