Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie scored 49 seconds apart early in the third period to help the Washington Capitals to a 5-2 win against the St. Louis Blues at Capital One Arena.

Ovechkin's fourth goal of the preseason gave Washington a 2-1 lead 38 seconds into the third. Oshie then made it 3-1 at 1:27.
Braden Holtby made 21 saves for the Capitals.
Robert Thomas gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead 4:39 into the second period, but Brett Connolly tied it for Washington at 17:52.
Jordan Schmaltz scored shorthanded for the Blues to make it 3-2 at 10:21 of the third period. Nic Dowd quickly restored the Capitals' two-goal lead at 12:47.
Devante Smith-Pelly made it 5-2 with an empty-net goal at 19:19 of the third.
Blues goalie Chad Johnson allowed four goals on 19 shots in 37:14. Jake Allen made six saves.
Capitals forward Tom Wilson was given a match penalty for his hit on Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist at 5:22 of the second period.
