PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Dan Spence stopped 52 shots and assisted on Matt Martin's empty-net insurance marker as the Sarnia Sting stole game one of their Ontario Hockey League Western Conference quarter-final series 2-0 over the Plymouth Whalers on Saturday night.

Jamie Arneil gave the Sting the lead on a two-man advantage late in the first period, wiring a snap shot past Whalers goaltender Matt Hackett.

Spence made Arneil's marker stand up, surviving two goal posts by Plymouth forwards Tyler Seguin and Vern Cooper while making 19 third-period saves.

Hackett finished the night with 31 saves.

Game two is Sunday night in Sarnia.
