The National Hockey League in conjunction with the City of Calgary will extend the celebration of the much-anticipated outdoor match-up between the Montreal Canadiens
and Calgary Flames
with its official 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic™ Spectator Plaza, a free, two-day fan festival just outside the gates of McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
On Saturday, Feb. 19 and Sunday, Feb. 20, the East parking lot between Crowchild Trail NW and McMahon Stadium will transform into an 88,000 square foot outdoor hockey and entertainment festival for fans of all ages with live musical performances, interactive hockey-themed attractions, stilt walkers, giant inflatables, prizing and giveaways, food, beverage and merchandise tents.
Weather permitting, Spectator Plaza will be open to the public from Noon – 6:00 p.m. MT on Feb. 19 and from Noon – 4 p.m. MT on Feb. 20, just prior to puck drop at the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic.
During the two-day festival, Sportsnet Radio – Fan 960, the Voice of the Calgary Flames
, will broadcast live from Spectator Plaza’s main stage. In addition to a lineup of great guests and full coverage of the entire NHL Heritage Classic weekend, The Fan 960 will offer fans a chance to win one of the last pairs of tickets to the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. On Sunday, Feb. 20, there will also be a live band, hockey-themed ice sculptures and face painting. Diaper donations in support of Hockey for Huggies will be accepted at the Huggies Every Little Bottom booth at Spectator Plaza throughout the weekend.
Starting Thursday, Feb. 17, before the official opening of Spectator Plaza on Saturday, fans can peruse the Official NHL Heritage Classic Merchandise Store within Spectator Plaza for jerseys, headwear, souvenirs, gifts & novelty items and apparel, including women’s and children’s wear. The 1,200 square foot retail location will be open to the public from noon-7pm on Feb. 17; from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Feb. 18; from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Feb. 19 and Feb. 20; and from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Feb. 21.
Tim Hortons, title sponsor of the NHL Heritage Classic, will be distributing free coffee from its trailer at Spectator Plaza. Tim Hortons also worked with Hockey Calgary and its four local Timbits associations to select young Timbits players to participate in pre-game and intermission activities on the Auxiliary Rink at McMahon Stadium during the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic.
The Bud Big Rig will be onsite at Spectator Plaza and both the Bud Big Rig full stage and the beer garden at Spectator Plaza will be serving Budweiser and Bud Light. In addition to its activation within Spectator Plaza, Budweiser launched a viral "Budweiser Showdown" game via Budweiser Canada’s Facebook page earlier this year giving fans a chance to win a trip to the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic.
Canadian Tire, the presenting sponsor the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic™ Truck Tour that concluded with the NHL® mobile refrigeration truck’s arrival in Calgary on Feb. 9, will offer fans at Spectator Plaza the chance to have their photo taken with a likeness of Jonathan Toews
or an NHL Heritage Classic logo via their branded green screen and give away free hand warmers and NHL Heritage Classic-themed foam helmets. Earlier this month, Canadian Tire’s "Build Crew Contest," which was supported through in-store, flyer, online and a custom TV creative, awarded a fan the chance to win a trip to Calgary and participate as a member of the NHL ice crew during the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic rink build on Feb. 16-17.

’s favorite childhood pastime of shooting hockey pucks into a dryer in the basement of his family home, Reebok will set up an actual dryer at Spectator Plaza into which fans can test their own accuracy for a chance to win prizes, including a Reebok stick, a pair of ZigTech shoes, a Zig bracelet, and more. Fans will also be able to try on their favorite NHL player’s equipment at Reebok locker room display.
Bridgestone will provide fans at Spectator Plaza the opportunity to test their accuracy and speed in the "Shootout" for a chance to win Bridgestone prizes; branded giveaways, including Bridgestone / NHL lip balm, will also be distributed by the Bridgestone team throughout Spectator Plaza.
XM will create a shoot-out area within Spectator Plaza where fans can test their shooting accuracy against XM-branded targets for a chance to win an XM radio and other prizes; giveaways will include XM / NHL pens and screen cleaners.
Fans can visit the BlackBerry penalty box at Spectator Plaza to answer hockey trivia questions, take their picture with a likeness of Bobby Orr
in a face cutout display, and pick up free giveaways including BlackBerry screen wipes and branded chapstick, binoculars, mini sticks, T-shirts, and pucks.
Hershey’s will be sampling its new Ice Breakers Frost mints at Spectator Plaza and Pepsi Max will be distributing samples of Pepsi Max. Pepsi Max’s "Hardest Shot" interactive game at Spectator Plaza will give fans the opportunity to test their own shooting speed.
Scotiabank, the preferred card of the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic, will offer fans the opportunity to develop their memory skills as they play "What’s In the Tin?" at Spectator Plaza for a chance to win regular season game tickets, autographed jerseys and more. Fans can also create a "Big Save" postcard at the Scotiabank tent while dressed in goalie gear and replicating their favorite NHL saves. In addition, Scotiabank will be distributing free Eco bags onsite to all fans who purchase 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic merchandise at all Scotiabank-branded retail kiosks.
LG will be delivering a special Life’s Good Moment from its LG mobile trailer at Spectator Plaza on Saturday afternoon as one lucky fan will receive two tickets to attend the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on Sunday. At the LG mobile trailer, fans can interact with LG Home Electronics – including its 3D technology – and Home Appliances, and also warm their gloves and pick up rally towels to show their event spirit.
On Sunday, Feb. 20, Cisco TelePresence will connect Montreal fans gathered at La Cage Aux Sports at the Bell Centre in Montreal with Calgary fans gathered at Spectator Plaza at McMahon Stadium. The high-definition video collaboration system will allow fans to share the excitement and join in the fun including an NHL Trivia Challenge with NHL alumni Georges Laraque
