Spaling gets hat trick in Rangers 9-2 trouncing of Plymouth in Game One playoff @NHLdotcom

KITCHENER, Ont. - Nick Spaling registered a hat trick as the Kitchener Rangers stomped the Plymouth Whalers 9-2 Friday to take 1-0 series lead in their Western Conference quarter-final.

Matt Halischuk and Yannick Weber each netted a pair, while Nazem Kadri and Ben Shutron added singles for the Rangers.

Patrick Lee and Chris Terry counted for the Whalers.

Steve Mason made 25 saves for the win.

Game Two is Saturday in Plymouth, Mich.
