Soudek and Nelson each score in a shootout as Royals beat Rebels 4-3 @NHLdotcom

VICTORIA - Robin Soudek and Logan Nelson each scored in a shootout as the Victoria Royals snapped the Red Deer Rebels? six-game winning streak with 4-3 victory Sunday night in Western Hockey League action.

Red Deer (14-4-2) opened the scoring at 6:35 of the first period with a goal from Josh Cowen.

But the Royals answered back a minute later as Brandon Magee buried his fifth of the season to tie game 1-1.

Victoria (11-10-1) took its first lead of the game as Austin Carroll tipped in the puck at 12:42 to make it 2-1 heading into the second.

The Rebels tied the game at 8:34 of the second as Cory Millette scored his sixth of the season, then re-took the lead as John Persson scored at 3:08 of the third period for a 3-2 edge.

Steven Hodges scored with 36 seconds to go in the game to force overtime.

Royals netminder Keith Hamilton made 33 saves and stopped both shootout attempts in the victory, while Rebel's goaltender Bolton Pouliot made 28 saves in a losing effort.
